Many of you will be giving internet marketing a go while also holding down a full-time job, so learning how to get the most out of your hours is essential. That said, sometimes it’s even more difficult to be efficient if you have all day to do it so decent time management is also super-critical for full-time marketers. That’s why you need to ….

Use time-management software

I recommend ClockingIt.com – it’s free and it does the trick.

Add in your ongoing and one-off tasks and select a due date. When you begin working on a task, click on the “start work” icon and ClockingIt will start the timer. Click on the icon again when you finish working on the task. You can keep stopping and starting until you finish the task — at which point ClockingIt will tell you how long you’ve spent on it.

The software makes it easy to see where you are spending your time and pinpoint potential bottlenecks (it’s quite shocking to realize that you spent five hours of your working week checking your email!). It’s also a great tool to get your staff using too, if/when you employ any.

China – the success story

( I suppose this can be said of Singapore , Taiwan and South Korea)

US President Obama visited China last week, primarily to find out what exactly & how exactly China is doing things that makes it such a success story, surpassing all the so-called “expert economic planners” of the US & Europe. His team found these 5 basic lessons behind China’s success -  it applies equally to our country :

LESSON No 1  -  BE AMBITIOUS
The Chinese believe in Setting Goals, Making Plans, & Focusing on Moving Ahead  -  there is always the sense of foward motion.
As an example, a huge 6-lane highway in Shanghaitook only 2 years from planning to ready for traffic. In the US, 2 years will only get you the environment and local authority permit if you are lucky .

LESSON No 2 –  EDUCATION MATTERS

The Chinese are obsessed with ensuring kids get the right education  - English, Maths & Science. They made sure that ther education system  reached even the most remote rural areas  -  today the literacy rate in China is OVER 90%, surpassing even the USA‘s 86%. According to American Educationists, the Chinese kids are way ahead of the kids in the USA.

LESSON No 3  -  LOOK AFTER THE ELDERLY
The Chinese DO NOT send their elderly to nursing care centres  -  they personally look after & care for their parents. In the US, nursing care of the elderly is now costing each resident USD 85,000 annually, & this is rising. The Chinese also believe that the grandparents at home make the best tutors for their children. It also provides a sense of cultural continuity  -  this helps bind society.

LESSON No 4 –  SAVE MORE
In the USA, savings dropped to zero in 2005, and is only now slowly rising to 4%. In China, the savings rate for every household has exceeded 20%. The Chinese believe that fugality & a healthy savings rate are a sure indicator of a country’s financial health. High savings lead to increased investments – results in increased productivity, innovation & job growth.

LESSON No 5  -  LOOK OVER THE HORIZON
In China, eveyone is foward looking  -  never backwards. New graduates make a vow  -  never ever will their children & grandchildren ever work in the fields again. With this kind of foward mentality, people are always thinking & planning how, not just to succeed, BUT how to be the best in the world in everything they do.

Why Are Some People More Confident Than Others?

Take a look around you. You will see a lot of people who seem to ‘have it made’ in life. Sometimes, you may wonder to yourself, why is that man such a confident person while I can barely convince my friends to watch a movie that I like…Why do some men have the confidence to walk up to a beautiful woman and introduce themselves or ask them out on a date without breaking a sweat?Well, one of the reasons why some people seem to have confidence and some don’t is not because they are ‘born with it’. Of course there are people who are better looking, smarter or richer… but those things only help you marginally. I’m sure you’ve seen good looking men or women exhume little confidence or rich people who can’t seem to communicate assertively.

The truth is that it is all about practice.

Confidence can be built just like a fortress. The more you invest into it, the better your confidence may be. Don’t beat yourself over the head if you can’t summon confidence when you need it – work hard at developing it and you will be able to see tremendous results after a while. There are techniques to build your confidence. In the next few lines, I will share some of these techniques with you and in no time, you will see a dramatic change in your life if you were to apply these principles.

Confidence Defined!

There are a few definitions of confidence related terms. I would like to familiarize some of them with you. How does one define confidence? Well, some people say it is about posture. Others may feel that it is about how you carry yourself. Some may even feel that having confidence means developing an immunity to fear…At the end of the day, I feel that confidence is all about a mental state – of feeling whether you can get something done or not. After all, if you have the aptitude to get something done, you are probably more confident when it comes to handling it, don’t you think?

It is all about your belief!

If you believe you can get something done, then you can. If you believe you can’t then you will most likely fail. Confidence must be differentiated from over-confidence, where a person has an unrealistic estimation about his abilities. There is a fine line between true confidence and being over-confident. Another thing that happens to people without confidence is known as choking. Choking occurs when people lose their self-confidence often resulting in a deteoration in their performance. These are some definitions, but I think we get the idea. In my Next Post, I will talk about a few habits that will greatly enhance your confidence building skills.

Successful business venture

Striving for excellence in any business venture

No matter what you do, whether you are an employee, a small business owner or if you are running a large corporation, you must always strive for perfection in anything that you do. You are in charge of your life. No one else will take that responsibility for you if you refuse to strive for excellence.
People expect excellence from their leaders or from people they look up to. These expectations will always be there. You can’t run away from it and you are expected to deliver.

You see,

if you are shooting at a target, you might as well aim at the bull’s eye.

It isn’t easy to hit the bull’s eye, but if you miss, there is a high chance that you will hit the target somewhere around the bull’s eye.  If you aim at the sides, there is a strong chance that you might not even hit the board!
We can’t expect to get a maximum score every time we give our maximum effort. Things might not go as planned. We will always fall short sometimes so we must aim as high as possible.

Aim for the sky because if fail to make at, at least you will clear the fence.

Here is a motivational story of a quarterback who had to do the death crawl (carrying another footballer on his back) a couple of yards across the field. The coach was telling him to give his best and nothing but his best because the opponents are really tough and the team were lacking in confidence.
He blindfolded the quarterback and the death crawl started. As he was crawling along, the coach kept on shouting at him telling him to keep on going. He yelled at him even when his body was aching! He kept on telling him to keep head up, to do just a few more yards, to give his very best and nothing less than that. The coach kept on assuring him that he was almost there and it was just a few yards away.
As his team mates watched on, they were amazed at the quarterback’s persistence. He just kept on going until he couldn’t take it anymore. As the quarterback collapsed on the field, he removed his blindfold to discover a very pleasant surprise. He completed a death crawl all the way across the entire football field! What a glorious victory! It was truly inspiring to his teammates.
Isn’t life like that sometimes?
In real life, when we continue to push ourselves and strive for excellence, we often surpass what we think we are capable of. Most of the time, we limit ourselves. We are the ones who fail ourselves. We fail to understand that the more we stretch our muscles, the stronger we will become. Just when we are on the verge of giving up, hope and faith will help us to get through the toughest times and the ultimate triumph will occur.
If you hope to succeed in business, you must go all out and give your best and nothing less.
