The Differences between Productive and Wasted Time

Article by Wilson Lau

A lot of people tend to mix up productivity and wasted hours. By surfing the net that is related to the internet business, doesn’t mean that you are actually taking action. It only shows that you are simply spending time on maintenance activities. You will tend to get distracted after clicking on other links out of curiosity. Also, you spend quite an amount of time checking your stats, subscribers, income. This may not take you a lot of time but it will affect your mood and performance if it is not your desired results and you will feel that you are actually not moving towards it. You will then start to wonder the whole process and negative thoughts will be charging towards you.

Personally, I will not look at the stats every day to avoid disappointment as there will be ups and downs on every single day. Instead, I would focus on my work to ensure that I have delivered quality information that will benefit the readers. Some tips for working smart and saving lots of time on unproductive activities is to get a timer and set it to 60 minutes with nothing else that is interrupting you.

Focus on the particular activity that you are intending to work on and remove the entire things that is losing your focus. The term of productive time will be time that is directly generated to income. This would mean that the particular activity that you are doing can generate income after spending time on it.

Even if you read an eBook that delivers the powerful secrets of making money, it will only get productive when you are actually doing it. This is important as people tend to mix up between reading and implementing. New knowledge is nothing if you did not take real action towards it.

Productive time would be creating your own products, marketing, improving your marketing process, create business scalability and setting up JV deals. Those are the process that will generate income after everything is done. There are also super productive times such as create systems that create products and creating systems that market products.

Non- productive time would be like checking the stats, reading email, talking to friends, studying and learning, etc. I am not trying to say that you shouldn’t spend time to study and learn, you definitely have to spend a lot of time researching and learning. Just that, it doesn’t build a business and there is no income after implementing it.
